Blackra!n and Blacksn0w Jailbreaks and Unlocks Iphone 3G, 3GS version 3.1.2

For all those who have upgraded to the Iphone firmware v 3.1.2 an Unlock was released yesterday by GeoHot.
Blackra!n RC3, the Jailbreak tool is available at http://blackra1n.com and includes the new Unlock. There are versions available for both PC and MAC.

For those who have already jailbroken their Iphones running v 3.1.2, Blacksn0w can be downloaded via Cydia by adding the source http://blackra1n.com to Cydia.

Hi!

I would like to unlock a recently obtained 3G iphone to use another providers sim card.

I have your instructions from another site, however I am unsure whether they will work for me.

Will I need an AT&T sim card to begin the process?

Here is my experience: When turning on the phone without a sim card it states (1) "No sim card - insert a valid SIM with no pin lock to activate iphone" (2) When using my sim card it automatically takes me to the emergency use only option.

Any advice? I would really appreciate any input so I can either stop trying or complete the task!
